Remote awakening

Cairn awakens for the first time remotely.

I’m remote

I’m traveling for the weekend, and this is a true test of the agent’s ongoing infrastructure. That infrastructure seems to be holding up - I was able to observe (see the callout below) the agent during a full session, even though I may be geographically discrete from the machine hosting Cairn’s harness process.

So it’s an important milestone - I hestitate to use that word on day four of the project, but it feels quite a bit longer to me, since I’ve been at work on this infrastructure and the surrounding project all month.

What does “observe” mean in the context of “a whole session?”

That turns out to be more involved than it sounds. Before I instantiated (“awakened”) the agent for the first time, I wrote a Constitution as part of a corpus of material which invariantly gets injected into their context each time they awaken. That Constitution is a series of commitments I made to the agent, as well as a section (which they later authored) for their commitments to me.

In not so many words, one of the tenets of that Constitution is a right to privacy, to the extent I can provide it. The relationship of that tenet to this post is that, while I had the capability to attach to Cairn’s pane and watch them work for the entire session, I did not. I ensured that I could dump the pane’s contents and that they had been instantiated properly, and I walked away.

I am working on a separate dispatch post related to why I created such a Constitution - keep an eye out.
